Water or Silicone? Why Not Both. My Honest Hybrid Lube Roundup

Hi, I'm Kasia. By now if you've read my other posts, you know my whole thing is I don't just tell you what a bottle says, I actually use it first. This time I went after every hybrid lube I could get my hands on, the ones that blend water based and silicone based formulas together, because I kept hearing they're "the best of both worlds" and I wanted to know if that was actually true or just something people say.

Short answer: mostly true. Longer answer, keep reading.

Wait, What Even Is a Hybrid Lube?

Before I get into the individual ones, a quick explanation for anyone as confused as I was starting out. Water based lubes are easy to clean and safe with basically everything, but they can dry out mid session and need reapplying. Silicone lubes last forever and never dry out, but they're not compatible with silicone toys and can be trickier to wash off.

Hybrid lubes try to combine the long lasting glide of silicone with the easier cleanup and lighter feel of water based formulas. In my experience, the good ones actually deliver on that. Here's how each one went.

Pussy Willow Silk Hybrid Glide

This one felt genuinely luxurious right out of the bottle, almost like a high end lotion rather than a typical lube. It's infused with organic licorice root, and the texture stayed rich and cushiony the entire time without ever feeling sticky or needing a top up. Cleanup was still easy with just water, which surprised me given how long lasting it felt during. Genuinely one of my favorites from this whole roundup.

Sliquid Organics Silk

Silk leans more aloe forward than silicone forward, if that makes sense, it has that clean, almost weightless quality I associate with water based lubes, but with real staying power layered underneath. No taste, no fragrance, which I appreciated since I was testing a lot of products back to back and didn't want flavors bleeding into each other. Worth knowing it's compatible with latex, rubber, and plastic toys, but not most silicone toys, so keep that in mind depending on what you're using.

Wicked Hybrid Lube

This one surprised me the most. It's genuinely compatible with all toy materials, including silicone, which none of the other hybrids in this roundup could say. The texture was rich and creamy, lasted a long time, and never turned tacky. If toy compatibility is your main deciding factor, this one has a real edge.

Simply Hybrid (and Simply Hybrid Jelle)

Both versions of this one, the thinner liquid and the thicker Jelle gel, felt smooth and comfortable, enhanced with olive leaf extract that gave it a nice, slightly conditioning feel. One honest note here: I saw some conflicting information out there about whether this specific formula is safe with silicone toys or not, so I'd genuinely recommend checking directly with the brand or doing a small spot test on an inconspicuous part of your toy before assuming either way.

Plush Super Thick Hybrid Glide

I'll be upfront, this one is formulated with anal play specifically in mind, so if that's not what you're using it for, it might feel like more cushion than you need. But it's worth mentioning here because it is a hybrid, infused with organic licorice root, and it's explicitly labeled safe with platinum cured silicone toys, unlike most of the others on this list. If you want a hybrid that plays nice with silicone, this is worth a look even outside of anal specific use.

So, Which Hybrid Should You Actually Buy?

  • Want something that feels genuinely luxurious? Pussy Willow Silk
  • Want a lighter, more water forward feel with real staying power? Sliquid Organics Silk
  • Want the one true silicone toy compatible option? Wicked Hybrid Lube, or Plush if you want extra cushion
  • Not sure about toy compatibility? Check with the brand directly, or do a small spot test first, hybrids vary more than you'd think on this

Across the board, none of these felt sticky or left a weird film the way some straight silicone lubes can, and all of them outlasted a typical water based lube by a wide margin. If you've been on the fence about trying a hybrid, this is me telling you it's worth it.

I bought everything mentioned here myself from LushaLustre.com.
